Summary

The Mechanical Design Engineer provides design solutions from project inception through production. Performing under minimal supervision and mentorship by more experienced colleagues, the Mechanical Design Engineer uses existing procedures, instruction, and guidance to solve routine engineering design problems. The Mechanical Design Engineer is capable to be assigned as lead engineer for all projects and able to perform system and component engineering for rehab and new components with little to no direct supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing/updating designs for customer projects and participating in preliminary design proposals
  • Contributing to the Engineering team's objectives for Process Improvement and Standardization
  • Define sourcing and manufacturing strategies and collaborate to refine strategies for manufacturing, sourcing, logistics and installation
  • Operating CAD/CAE equipment to complete work assignments
  • Creating 3D solid models of components and assemblies and 2D drawings best suited for manufacturing methods
  • Reviewing and releasing engineering documents and Bill of Materials in consultation with other experienced engineers
  • Searching for and identifying OEM drawings in archive and customer supplied drawing files
  • Using ERP systems to create BoMs best suited for manufacturing, sourcing, logistics and installation strategy
  • Participating in and leading design reviews and FMEAs
  • Preparing design changes and processing change notifications
  • Providing dispositions of non-conforming materials, components and assemblies as to adequacy for use in consultation with other experienced engineers
  • Engaging vendors, manufacturing personnel, and field service personnel in defining solutions that reduce cost and risk
  • Supporting the quality department with continuous improvement and problem solving activities
  • Assisting Test Engineers during start-up and commissioning, evaluating test results and checking guaranteed values
  • Communicating with customers regarding their engineering design-related questions and concerns

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's of Engineering degree
  • 3 to 10 years of work experience in a function related to heavy industrial manufacturing with a proven track record of successful project execution.
  • Where required by local regulations, an engineering license may be required
