Salary: £65,000 - £70,000
Working Hours: Monday to Friday
Location: Northampton
We are proud to be recruiting on behalf of our client for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead a high-performing team within a dynamic and fast-paced production environment. This is an exciting opportunity for a strategic and hands-on leader to drive engineering excellence and continuous improvement across site operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the engineering function to provide efficient, cost-effective support across production and plant infrastructure.
Manage the departmental budget with a focus on cost efficiency, value creation, and strategic resource planning.
Contribute to long-term planning in areas such as labour strategy, energy consumption, and capital equipment upgrades.
Champion development opportunities for the engineering team, conducting regular performance reviews and providing technical mentorship.
Take ownership of full lifecycle CAPEX and infrastructure project delivery-ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.
Collaborate cross-functionally to embed a strong culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.
Partner closely with Production and Shift Managers to plan, coordinate, and align engineering activities with operational goals.
Maintain strong lines of communication between maintenance and production to support seamless operations.
Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules and internal maintenance systems to maximise equipment uptime.
Drive site-wide energy optimisation initiatives to improve efficiency and sustainability.
Support the negotiation and management of external service contracts, ensuring value for money and service quality.
Ensure full compliance with all relevant Health & Safety, environmental, and insurance legislation (UK/EU standards).
Conduct and manage risk assessments, implement control measures, and champion safety for all staff and contractors on-site.
Design and deliver hands-on equipment maintenance training for production teams to promote cross-functional capability.
Person Specification:
Degree or HND in Engineering or a related technical field.
Extensive maintenance experience within a highly automated, batch production, or FMCG environment.
Demonstrated leadership and team management skills.
Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and innovation abilities.
Proven track record in delivering capital investment projects.
Strategic mindset with strong planning and execution capabilities.
Solid budgeting and resource management expertise.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
A passion for continuous improvement and operational excellence.
